‘700: The Arts’ (2006)

In this durational artwork, every single book in ‘The Arts’ section of Oxford Brookes University's library was manually searched through by the artist. Each time a ‘bookmark’ was found in one of the hundreds of publications, the page was photocopied with the marker in its original place. Some of the items used as bookmarks included a medical prescription, a leaf, photo ID, a Christmas card and handwritten notes. The copies were bound into a hardback book, categorised according to the library system, which was later catalogued and shelved in the library. All of the found bookmarks were removed and archived.
